Pathfinder Land Surveying was founded by experts dedicated to delivering accurate and timely survey intelligence with individuals and businesses.

Pathfinder Land Surveying is a successful, owner-operated business with a team of well-educated professionals who know that all interactions, communications and deliverables must adhere to the highest professional standards in accuracy, application and delivery.

Calls and emails are always answered promptly, appointments are kept and documentation is always correct and on time.

Owners Jacob Petry and Doyle Hupp preach what they practice. Not only do they have four decades of combined professional surveying experience, they are also professors in the field, teaching at Glenville State University. They are fully immersed in the science and business of surveying.

The Pathfinder journey

Co-founder Jacob Petry is committed to lifelong learning. A clarifying moment in his studies became the namesake for Pathfinder Land Surveying.

Jacob Petry envisioned the "Pathfinder" name while teaching declination and secular change at Glenville State University.

He found that the idea of a magnetic north that varied randomly from true north was challenging to communicate and even more challenging to illustrate on a whiteboard. He decided there must be a better way.

Jacob and his brother, a U.S. Army pilot and expert land navigator, collaborated to devise a solution. The result: the patented “Patented Pathfinder – Directional Conversion Tool,” a valuable teaching aid and tool for quickly calculating and understanding secular change – and the inspiration for our business name.
